Tuesday’s 2B Baseball: Woodland Edges Adna

WOODLAND — Preston Ashley tossed a complete game, but a few miscues helped Woodland to a 3-2 nonleague baseball win here Tuesday.

Ashley struck out six and gave up six hits without walking a batter, and didn’t allow an earned run.

“There’s just a couple basic plays, here and there, that we make and it’s the difference in that game,” Adna coach Jon Rooklidge said. “But Preston threw awesome. The key was no walks, and he used his defense real well.”

Brady Collins was 2 for 3 with a double for Adna, and Chance Fay and Spencer Burdick each hit RBI singles. Blaine Latimer added a double.

Adna (7-5, 7-3 league) plays a doubleheader against Morton-White Pass in Morton on Wednesday.

Comets Edge Winlock in Nonleague Game

WINLOCK — The Cardinals came up just short in a nonleague game here Tuesday, falling to Naselle 11-9.

Five different pitchers took the mound for Winlock, which tallied nine hits in the loss but scored four in the seventh inning to keep things interesting.

Wyatt Dean went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Jake Anderson was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Coleson Richendollar also went 2 for 4, with an RBI and a triple.

“We used this nonleague opportunity as a chance to get some guys some work on the mound that normally don’t get to pitch a lot,” Winlock coach Scott Weinert said. “Naselle, their pitchers presented a little bit of trouble. We weren’t as patient at the plate as I’d hoped they would be. … They did a really good job of keeping our hitters off balance.”

Winlock (4-8, 3-7 league) hosts Mossyrock in a Central 2B League doubleheader on Thursday.
