Tuesday’s 2B Boys Basketball: Young, Pirates Run Past Mossyrock 76-39

By The Chronicle
MOSSYROCK — Adna scored 50 in the first half and had little trouble with Mossyrock in a 76-39 Central 2B League boys hoops win here Tuesday night.
Cody Young scored 20 points, Blake Davis added 12 and Trevor Thornburg added 10 for the Pirates.
“Adna came out strong. They did the things they do,” Mossyrock coach Jordan Hunter said. “They put a lot of pressure on our guys, and early in the game Young just dominated us.”
The Pirates scored 30 points off of fastbreaks in the first half, Hunter estimated.
“We just didn’t get back on defense and didn’t rebound in the first half hardly at all,” he said. “The second half we did a much better job of executing, making sure our possessions were effective, getting back on defense and holding them a little bit.”
Justin Gootgeld scored 13 with seven rebounds for Mossyrock, and Evan Gootgeld added 14.
Adna (8-1, 5-1 league) hosts Toledo on Thursday. Mossyrock (0-9, 0-6 league) plays at Pe Ell on Thursday.
Note: Wahkiakum beat Pe Ell, 50-31, on Tuesday night in Cathlamet. Zach Brown led the Mules with 19 points and Luke Brown added 15. Pe Ell hosts Adna on Thursday.

Loggers Chopped Down By Ducks
TOUTLE — Toutle Lake came out of the gates fast and never looked back, defeating Onalaska 77-28 in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Tuesday.
Alex Frazier and Kayden Allison each scored 7 points for the Loggers. Cam Swanson and Broc Keeton each had 14 for the Ducks.
Toutle Lake led 24-5 after the first quarter and pushed the lead to 43-13 at halftime.
“They were impressive. They hit the first seven shots and it was over from the beginning,” Onalaska coach Dennis Bower said. “We couldn’t score, we couldn’t defend them. It was a running clock for a good reason.”
Bower noted the play of Tristen Lawrence, who came off the bench and contributed 3 points for the Loggers.
Onalaska (3-6, 1-5) hosts Winlock on Thursday in a C2BL game.

Morton-White Pass Defeats Winlock
WINLOCK — Matt Poquette and Tristan Storey were too much inside for Winlock, as the Timberwolves won 73-52 in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Tuesday.
Poquette scored 23 points and Storey added 18. Carson Lewis was the other MWP player in double figures with 10 points.
Winlock’s Jayce Coleman scored 16 points and Dawson Hall chipped in 11. Bryce Cline added 10 for the Cardinals.
The Timberwolves led 10-4 after a quarter, but the scoring picked up in the second as MWP led 32-21 at halftime.
“We’d get out and pressure. When they broke it, they were able to penetrate and dump it off for easy buckets,” Winlock coach Nick Bamer said. “Their big guys bothered us all game long. The effort was there, but we were not getting to the rim enough and competing with their height.”
Bamer commended the play of Coleman and Hall in the post, and praised Coleson Richendollar’s energy coming off the bench.
Morton-White Pass (8-2, 5-1) hosts Wahkiakum in Morton on Thursday while Winlock (6-3, 3-3) hits the road to face Onalaska on Thursday in a league game.
