Tuesday’s 2B Girls Basketball: Toledo Comes From Behind to Defeat Onalaska

ONALASKA — The Lady Loggers held a lead throughout the game, but only scored 4 points in the fourth quarter to help Toledo to earn a 50-41 win in a Central 2B League girls basketball game here on Tuesday.

Kal Schaplow led Toledo with 15 points and Anna Tauscher chipped in 14.

Onalaska’s Carmen Cleveland-Barrera recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Abigail Bogar added 10 points for the Loggers.

The Loggers led 37-34 heading into the fourth quarter, but Toledo won the final frame 16-4 to pull out the win.

“We shot the ball well the first three quarters. The fourth quarter, we couldn’t hit a basket,” Onalaska coach Dracy McCoy said, adding that Bogar hit a few key 3-pointers in the second quarter. “She’s been sick for the last few days. Barrera was getting some good putbacks, and did a good job offensive rebounding.”

Toledo (10-4, 8-2 league) hosts Rainier on Thursday while Onalaska (4-10, 3-7 league) travels to Kalama on Thursday for a C2BL game.

Elliott Beats the Buzzer to Help Pe Ell Beat Toutle Lake

PE ELL — Maggie Elliott hit a shot at the buzzer to lift Pe Ell to a 30-29 win over Toutle Lake in a Central 2B League girls basketball game on Tuesday.

Pe Ell was down one with 21 seconds to go, and Pe Ell coach Chris Phelps drew up a play and Elliott got an open look and drained it.

“Nothing but the bottom of the net,” Phelps said. “All around, her effort along with (Katie) Davis’ effort offensively. It was something that really impressed on me.”

Elliott scored 5 points, none bigger than her final shot, to go with four steals. Davis led the Trojans with 13 points and Ellie Little added 4 points and seven rebounds.

“It was a tough battle on both ends of the court. The offense looked good, but we couldn’t seem to find the bottom of the net,” Phelps said. “A win is a win is a win in this league and we will take it.”

Pe Ell (3-11, 3-7) travels to Winlock on Thursday for a key C2BL game.

Pirates Crush Winlock

ADNA — Adna’s pressure was too much for Winlock early on, and the Pirates had little trouble in a 65-19 Central 2B League girls basketball win here Tuesday.

Payton Aselton scored 18 points and Adna held a 25-2 lead after a quarter.

Sam Foster scored all 8 of her points in the first half for Adna, and Emily Sliva scored 15 with a quartet of 3-pointers.

“That’s her best game of the season, not only offensively but defensively,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “If we can get her and (Tyas) Pannette coming along with Aselton we’ll be alright.”

Abby Kruger added 7 points and eight rebounds, while Panette chipped in 6 for Adna.

Cheleena Squibb led Winlock with 9 points.

Adna (8-6, 6-4 league) plays at Wahkiakum on Thursday. Winlock (2-11, 1-8 league) hosts Pe Ell on Thursday.

Timberwolves Claw Past Chinooks

RANDLE — Morton-White Pass held Kalama to a point in the first quarter to build a lead and cruise to a 45-30 win in a Central 2B League girls basketball game here on Tuesday.

Jacie Dunlap led the Timberwolves with 16 points, hitting 3 of 5 from behind the arc. Sierra Dotson added 6 points and 10 rebounds and Hannah Smathers chipped in 7 points and seven boards.

MWP led 20-13 at halftime, and pulled away in the second half despite 32 turnovers.

“We’ve got to minimize turnovers. We’re just giving away possessions,” MWP coach Tom Griffith said. “We were fortunate we shot better tonight than we did. Dunlap had a good game, and the girls played hard. I can’t fault the effort.”

MWP (7-6, 5-4 league) hits the road to face Toutle Lake on Thursday for a C2BL game.
