By The Chronicle
MOSSYROCK — Mossyrock’s Heather Edgar recorded a double-double to lead the Vikings to a 57-32 win over Toutle Lake in a District 4 2B girls basketball tournament game here on Tuesday.
Edgar scored 21 points, all in the first half, to go with 10 rebounds. Andee Nelson added nine points and 10 boards and Madison Vigre tallied eight points.
Keeley Studebaker-Smith led the Ducks with 17 points.
The Vikings shot 42 percent from the field while Toutle Lake shot just 26 percent.
Mossyrock gained a 16-13 lead after one quarter, but turned it up in the second quarter and led 30-21 at halftime. It was all Vikings in the second half, holding the Ducks to just 11 points to cruise to the win.
“We played really well. We did a nice job defensively and had a big third quarter all around as a team,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “It gave us that big lead going into the fourth quarter and we continued to push from there. Everyone had a good game and it was a great way to boost our confidence going into the double elimination.”
Mossyrock faces South Bend at 6 p.m. at W.F. West in Chehalis on Wednesday to begin the double elimination tournament.
Napavine Falls to Raymond to End Season
RAYMOND — Napavine’s Rae Sisson scored 15 points but it wasn’t enough as Raymond won 44-27 in a District 4 2B girls basketball tournament game here on Tuesday.
Chloe Stewart, Natalya Marcial and Sydney Purvis each added three points.
Raymond’s Kyra Gardner led all scorers with 20 points and Hannah Miller chipped in 12 points.
The Tigers shot just 24 percent from the field.
Raymond led 12-9 after one quarter and built the lead to 30-14 at halftime to cruise in the second half to the win.
“Rae Sisson had a great game both offensively and defensively. Our inexperience really showed tonight,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said. “This is Maddie Doughty’s final basketball game. We are very thankful that she came out this season and contributed. Raymond executed what they wanted to accomplish tonight. They turned us over which led to easy baskets. Hopefully, we will continue to grow and put in the work necessary to improve the program.”
The Tigers ended the season 6-15 overall and 3-7 in league games.
Note: Onalaska defeated North Beach 56-34 in a loser out game in Onalaska on Tuesday and will face Willapa Valley at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Rochester. Chief Leschi defeated Kalama 50-39 in a loser out game and the Warriors will take on Adna at 7:30 p.m. at W.F. West in Chehalis on Wednesday.
