Tuesday’s Boys Basketball: Chief Leschi Sends Pe Ell Packing

By The Chronicle

PUYALLUP — A slow start put Pe Ell away early here Tuesday as Chief Leschi defeated the Trojans 75-54 in a Pacific 2B League boys basketball game.

The Warriors went up 25-11 after one quarter and never looked back as they worked on expanding their advantage.

Pe Ell coach Chris Fitzgerald described the opening quarter as, “Very timid. Very ugly.”

“I take the blame for that. We didn’t come ready to play like I thought they were gonna,” added Fitzgerald.

The Warriors took a 39-22 lead into the intermission and outscored Pe Ell 18-13 in the final frame. However, the Trojans did manage to best Chief Leschi 19-18 in the third quarter.

Darnell Lewis led all scorers with 24 points for the Warriors.

A cold shooting night hampered Pe Ell’s chances to mount a lasting comeback in the game as they shot just 29 percent on 62 shots from the field.

Pe Ell was led in scoring by Jeremiah Yost’s 11 points. Dana Isham and Max Smith added 10 points each for the Trojans while Yost and Smith each grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

“It was a hostile environment and it was the first time they’ve been in it,” said Fitzgerald.

Pe Ell (0-13, 0-11) will host Life Christian Academy on Saturday at 7 p.m.
