Tuesday’s Girls Basketball: Schow Helps Beavers Best Hoquiam

By The Chronicle

TENINO — Despite some shortcomings the Beavers were able to maintain their ground in the 1A Evergreen League girls basketball playoff race here on Tuesday as they defeated Hoquiam 43-31.

“We lacked some effort at times and we didn’t make a lot of shots,” Tenino coach Scott Ashmore said.

Ashley Schow scored a game-high 25 points to pace the Beavers. Tenino shot 23 percent from the field on 60 shots but helped to offset those misses with an 18 of 31 effort from the charity stripe.

Abby Severse added eight points in the win, with all of those coming in the fourth quarter. Grace Vestal scored six points.

“Lately we haven’t been consistent enough. We’re not scoring enough right now,” Ashmore said. “We’ve had good games from (Alivia) Hunter and the same thing from Severse, but we’re just not getting enough. (Megan) Letts has had some good games as well.”

Tenino (8-10, 3-4 league) currently holds the third and final playoff spot in the 1A Evergreen League. The Beavers will host Three Rivers Christian on Thursday for a non-league affair.
