Twin City Union Drops Pair of Games
By The Chronicle
Twin City Union lost two games over the weekend, putting Union two points back of a playoff spot with just two games left in the regular season.
Union faced Fuerza FC in the home finale at Tiger Stadium on Saturday. Fuerza only had 11 players, but was able to come away with a 1-0 win. Karin Heisen scored the lone goal of the match in the 12th minute.
On Sunday, Union traveled South to face the Washington Timbers in Vancouver, and fell short in their comeback attempt in a 3-2 loss.
The Timbers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half with two goals from Anyssa De Vera and another goal from Milla Benedetti.
Union fought back early in the second half, with Bella Brown and Leah Magee scoring to cut the lead to 3-2 with plenty of time left in the half, but Twin City Union couldn’t produce an equalizer as the Timbers held on for the win.
With two games left for Union, they are two points back of South Sound Shock for the sixth and final playoff spot, and three points back of Yakima United for the fifth playoff spots. Yakima and Shock each have the tiebreaker advantage over Union right now due to goal differential, so Union would need a couple wins and some help to earn a playoff spot.
Twin City Union has this weekend off before returning to action on Saturday, July 1, traveling to Spokane to face the Shadow, with a time and place to be announced.
