Jaron Howell led W.F. West to a 224-263 win over Rochester on Wednesday at Riverside Golf Course in both teams’ Evergreen 2A Conference opener.
Howell earned match medalist honors with a 40, and teammate Andrew Kim shot a 41 for the Bearcats.
Marcus Ashton led Rochester with a 48.
“He played well. He was frustrated with a couple holes where he’d gone out of bounds, so he should be in the mid to low 40s,” Rochester coach Kyle Sprague said.
Sophomore Logan Fry shot a 49 for the Warriors.
“He’s getting a lot better,” Sprague added. “He’s hitting the ball really well. Everything’s kind of coming together for him.”
Ethan Worden added a 51 for the Warriors, and Brayden Norquist shot a 52.
“I think those are the best scores they’ve ever posted for a varsity match, so I can’t be too disappointed,” Sprague noted.
Wyatt Magnuson shot a 46 for the Bearcats, with Brady Hinds’ 48 and Ryan Pedersen’s 49 rounding out W.F. West’s top five scores.
W.F. West hosts Black Hills on Monday at Newaukum Valley Golf Course. Rochester hosts Aberdeen Monday, back at Riverside.
