Wednesday’s Boys Basketball: Bearcats Fall to Wolves in Regular Season Finale

TUMWATER — Black Hills had four players score in double figures to help the Wolves earn a 58-44 win over W.F. West in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys basketball game here on Wednesday.

The loss, coupled with Aberdeen’s win over Tumwater on Wednesday, means the Bearcats are the No. 4 seed out of the EvCo into the district tournament. W.F. West will travel to Columbia River on Saturday at 7 p.m. to face the Chieftans in the quarterfinals.

Colton Baker led the Bearcats with 18 points. Tyler Speck added 10 points and Colby White grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Averty Armin and Gabe Wright each scored 13 points to lead the Wolves. Zach Crumley contributed 12 points and Jackson Bauer tallied 10 points.

Black Hills won the rebounding battle 40-32 and shot 61 percent from the free throw line compared to W.F. West’s 53 percent.

The game was tied at eight after one quarter, but Black Hills gained a 24-20 lead at halftime. The Wolves pulled away in the fourth quarter, holding the Bearcats to nine points to complete the victory.

W.F. West finished the regular season 9-12 overall and 6-4 in EvCo games. The Bearcats lost to Columbia River in the District 4 semifinals last season, 61-45.
