Wednesday’s Boys Basketball: Hyaks Edge Trojans

By The Chronicle

PE ELL — Pe Ell was down by two points late against North Beach here on Wednesday, but a game-tying shot didn’t fall as the Hyaks held on for a 64-60 win in a Pacific 2B League boys basketball game.

Dana Isham recorded a double-double for the Trojans with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Colton Nelson added 11 points and eight rebounds and Jeremiah Yost was also in double figures with 10 points.

Reagan Harnagy led all scorers with 23 points for the Hyaks. David Nessa added 12 points and Desmond Pope and Chance Beck each tallied 11 points.

North Beach shot 42 percent from the field while Pe Ell knocked down just 37 percent of their shots. The Trojans won the rebounding battle, 33-23.

North Beach led 16-9 after one quarter. Each team scored 17 points in the second quarter for a seven point Hyak lead at intermission.

Pe Ell started the comeback in the third quarter, cutting the North Beach lead to 45-43 going into the fourth quarter. The Trojans had a chance late, but couldn’t get a shot to fall to tie the game.

“We had the ball at the end and just didn’t drop. The kids played hard. It’s getting tougher, I don’t feel I’m losing any of them,” Pe Ell coach Chris Fitzgerald said. “They’re getting tired of losing. Our last couple of games, we’ve been right there. We could have and should have won.”

Fitzgerald noted the performance of Nelson, saying it was his best game of the year.

Pe Ell (0-8) faces Onalaska at 4:30 p.m. next Thursday in the Pe Ell Christmas tournament.
