By The Chronicle

MENLO — Willapa Valley held Pe Ell to single digit points in all four quarters to cruise to a 70-21 win in a Pacific 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.

Jeremiah Yost led Pe Ell with 10 points and eight rebounds and Max Smith chipped in three points and eight rebounds.

Matt Pearson led all scorers with 15 points. Logan Walker added 13 points and Peter Hamilton was also in double figures with 11 points.

The Trojans just couldn’t get anything going offensively, shooting just seven of 45 from the field.

Willapa Valley led 24-2 after one quarter and expanded the lead to 44-9 to cruise to the win in the second half.

“We’ve played a lot better. We played hard, it’s real hard to compete against a really good team,” Pe Ell coach Chris Fitzgerald said. “That’s the best team we’ve played so far. Our kids played hard, we just have a hard time playing basketball.”

Pe Ell (0-11, 0-9) hosts Ocosta on Friday in a P2BL game.
