Wednesday’s College Softball: Centralia Narrowly Drops Two Against Mt. Hood

GRESHAM, Ore. — Centralia battled with Mt. Hood for two games here and came close but ultimately fell in both games of a NWAC softball doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Saints won Game 1 in walk off fashion, 6-5. Kennedy Jantzi hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Dakota Brooks pitched a complete game for the Blazers, allowing six runs on eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts. She helped her own cause at the plate with a 2-run home run.
Jamie Carlson was 2-for-2 and Shelby Levang had a hit and a RBI. Olivia Dean, McKenna Smith and Katie Gleasman each had a hit and a run for the Blazers.
Mt. Hood jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. Centralia climbed back into the game, starting with two runs in the sixth. Brooks’ home run tied the game in the seventh and Levang hit a single to bring home Skylar Olson and take a 5-4 lead before Jantzi’s homer in the bottom of the seventh.
Game 2 was also close, with the Saints coming from behind once again for a 14-13 win. Britzy Hockett was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, two RBI and a walk and Dean was 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a walk.
Brooks hit another home run, this time a 3-run bomb. Levang was 2-for-5 with a double and three runs and Shaughnessy was 2-for-4 with two runs and a RBI for the Blazers.
Centralia plated a run in the first but opened the game up with nine runs in the second inning. The Blazers scored two more in the third and one more in the fourth to lead 13-5 after four innings.
Mt. Hood began the comeback in the fifth with six runs and pulled ahead in the sixth inning with three runs, holding off Centralia in the top of the seventh for the victory.
Centralia (13-10, 8-7) hosts Walla Walla on Saturday at 11 a.m. in a non-conference NWAC doubleheader.
