Wednesday’s Prep Girls Soccer: Tigers Outlast Ilwaco in Overtime
By The Chronicle
NAPAVINE — Makensee Tallaferro Bouge punched in an overtime goal here on Wednesday in order to put the Tigers over Iwaco 3-2 in a Central 2B League girls soccer contest.
Napavine took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to an own goal by the Fishermen in the 10th minute and a goal by Chloe Stewart in the fifth minute. The second half was not as kind to the Tigers though, as Elle Personius scored in the 45th minute and Sarah Frank punched in a penalty kick in the 78th minute.
“I was just super nervous. It was honestly anyone’s game. Ilwaco brought their A-game and my girls were playing well too,” said Napavine coach Emily McCarthy. “It was a really intense game and as tension started getting high my girls sort of lost a little bit of their mentality.”
Once the game entered the overtime phase, it was Tallaferro Bouge’s time to shine as her goal handed the Tigers the win.
“I knew they could do it, they just had to show up and prove it,” said McCarthy.
Napavine will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kalama versus Onlaska.
Note: Life Christian defeated Ocosta 3-2 in the other loser out district playoff game and will face Toledo on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Kalama.
