Weekend Legion Baseball: RBI Anglers Snag a Victory in Vancouver

By The Chronicle
VANCOUVER – The Anglers won their final game on Saturday to finish the KWRL Hammerin’ Rooster Tournament with a 1-2 record.
On Friday the 17-U rendition of the Rural Baseball Inc. roster dropped a game to the host Glenwood team by a score 9-2. In Saturday’s opening cost the Anglers fell to the Vancouver Cardinals by a score of 14-3. Mekhi Morlin of Winlock had hits in both games, while Brannan Guyer, of Toledo, and Drayson Hilkmier, of Chehalis, added base knocks against the Cardinals.
In the Saturday’s second contest the RBI Anglers topped Kalama 7-5. Jesse Towns, of Toledo, earned the win for RBI with one earned run allowed in four innings. Hilkmier tossed the middle innings and Brock Bunker, of Chehalis, earned the save. Hilkmier and Bunker also split the catching duties in the Anglers win.
RBI coach Skyler Towns noted that his team picked up the tournament earlier in the week after another team dropped out and as a result wound up playing with a shoestring roster both days.
“They came out on short notice. I was impressed with all the guys who came out,” said Towns, who added that Rowdy Kirkendoll turned in an impressive diving catch in the outfield in Saturday’s win.
“The first two teams that we played were really good. The competition was really good there and all the teams were competing,” said Towns.
The RBI Anglers (3-2) will face the KWRL Roosters in La Center on June 9.
